Convergence of AI and Blockchain at the EUBOF Conclusion Workshop
On 8 May 2024, Mariana de la Roche Wills participated in the EU Blockchain Observatory and Forum (EUBOF) Conclusion Workshop, hosted at the European Commission. Her contribution focused on the convergence between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain, exploring how these technologies interact and what this means for policy, industry, and society.
Exploring Challenges, Opportunities, and Applications
In her intervention, Mariana examined both the challenges and opportunities arising from the joint use of AI and blockchain. She discussed how combining these technologies can improve trust, transparency, and accountability, while also raising important questions around governance, data protection, and ethical use. She also touched on emerging practical applications where AI and blockchain are already being used to create innovative solutions.
The Role of INATBA’s AI–BC Task Force
Mariana also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the AI–BC Task Force within INATBA – the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications. This Task Force brings together experts and stakeholders to better understand how AI and blockchain can be deployed in ways that are trusted, interoperable, and aligned with public interest objectives.
A Call for a Unified, Human‑Centered Vision
To close her session, Mariana issued a strong call for a unified vision for a sustainable and equitable future, grounded in human‑centered technology applications. She underlined the need to develop and adopt international standards that ensure AI and blockchain technologies are designed and governed so that they serve everyone, everywhere in an ethical, responsible, and inclusive manner.
