Global Bitcoin Pizza Day Vienna 2026
On May 22, 2026, Vienna became the official Austrian stop of PizzaDAO’s Global Bitcoin Pizza Party, joining more than 400 cities and over 20,000 participants worldwide in celebrating one of the most important milestones in Bitcoin history.
Hosted by Validvent, MAK Vienna, and CryptoWiener, the event brought together 340 attendees in the iconic Säulenhalle of the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) for an evening of community, culture, networking, and of course, pizza.
Celebrating the First Real-World Bitcoin Transaction
Bitcoin Pizza Day commemorates May 22, 2010, when software developer Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two pizzas for 10,000 BTC. It was the first documented real-world transaction using Bitcoin and a defining moment that demonstrated Bitcoin’s potential as a medium of exchange.
Sixteen years later, what began as a simple pizza purchase has evolved into a global tradition celebrated by thousands of Bitcoin enthusiasts around the world.
Art, Community, and Bitcoin
The event began in the afternoon with access to Felix Lenz’s exhibition „Soft Image, Brittle Grounds“ at the MAK. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the exhibition before the community gathered for the evening celebration.
From 4:00 PM onwards, the Säulenhalle transformed into a vibrant meeting point for Vienna’s Bitcoin and crypto ecosystem. Entrepreneurs, investors, developers, artists, students, and curious newcomers came together to share ideas, discuss the future of digital assets, and connect with like-minded people.
What stood out most throughout the evening was the atmosphere.
The room was filled with energy, optimism, and genuine curiosity. New connections were made, old friends reunited, and conversations continued long after the first slices of pizza had been served.
More Than Just a Party
While Bitcoin Pizza Day is often associated with the famous 10,000 BTC transaction, the event has always been about something bigger.
It is a celebration of open networks, financial innovation, and the communities that continue to build and support them. Events like these remind us that behind every technological breakthrough are people who believe in new ideas and are willing to collaborate to make them reality.
At Validvent, we believe that education, transparency, and strong communities are essential for the long-term success of the digital asset ecosystem. Supporting initiatives like Bitcoin Pizza Day is one way of contributing to that mission.
Thank You
A special thank you goes to PizzaDAO for organizing the largest Global Bitcoin Pizza Party ever and connecting communities across continents through a shared celebration.
We would also like to thank MAK Vienna, CryptoWiener, our volunteers, partners, and everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. Most importantly, thank you to the 340 people who joined us in Vienna and brought the event to life. We are proud to have hosted Vienna’s official Global Bitcoin Pizza Party and look forward to celebrating with you again next year.
Until May 22, 2027. 🍕
